This is the privacy policy for Akiyahopper. It explains what personal information we collect when you use the site, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what you can do about it.
What we collect
- Account information — your email address. If you sign in with Google or Microsoft, the name and avatar image those providers share with us.
- Bookmarks — the listings you bookmark.
- Subscription status — if you have a paid subscription, we hold a record of the subscription and billing period. We don't see or store your payment card details; those are held by Stripe.
- Contact form submissions — your message, the category you picked, any email address you provided, and basic technical context (which page you came from, your browser type) so we can reproduce issues.
- Anonymous usage analytics — we run our own copy of an open-source, cookieless analytics tool called Umami. It doesn't collect personally identifiable information. Aggregate metrics like page views, referring site, approximate country, and device type help us see which features get used.
Why we collect it
To provide your account and run the site; to process your subscription; to reply to your contact form when you've asked to be contacted; to keep the site secure; and to understand which features are used so we can improve them.
We don't sell your information, don't use it for advertising, and don't share it with marketing partners.
Who we share it with
We use a small set of other companies to run the site. None of them get your data for their own marketing.
- Supabase — provides our database and our sign-in system; your account information lives there.
- Netlify — hosts the site itself.
- Stripe — handles paid subscriptions and payment cards.
- Resend — sends our automated emails (sign-up verification, password resets).
- Google or Microsoft — only if you choose to sign in with them.
- Google Maps (on listing detail pages) and OpenFreeMap (on the search map) — your browser loads map content directly from them, so they receive your IP address and browser type as part of any normal web request.
- Legal authorities — when required by law.
Some of these companies operate from the United States and other countries; using the site means your information may be processed there.
How long we keep it
- Account information and bookmarks: while your account is active. Delete your account from the account page at any time and it goes from our records.
- Subscription and billing records: seven years, for tax compliance.
- Contact form submissions: while we still need them to follow up on your enquiry. You can ask us to delete them at any time.
- Anonymous usage analytics: indefinitely — it doesn't identify you.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- show you the information we hold about you
- correct anything that's wrong
- delete your account and the data tied to it
- stop using your data for a particular purpose
- withdraw consent you've previously given
You can also complain to a privacy regulator if you think we've got something wrong — in New Zealand that's the Office of the Privacy Commissioner; in Japan it's the Personal Information Protection Commission; in the EU or UK it's your country's data-protection authority.
Email support@akiyahopper.com to use any of these rights.
Children
The site isn't aimed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone that age. If you think we have, let us know and we'll delete it.
Changes
We'll update this page if we change how we handle your information. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect the latest version; significant changes will also be emailed to you if you have an account.
